When we think of going on vacation we often associate the experience to a group of people having a good time and lots of fun so, why do it alone? Solo travel can be a frightening experience specially if it’s your first time, it raises concerns around safety as well as the possibility of feeling alone or bored. However, being a solo traveller can be a very rewarding and enriching adventure that helps us to clear our mind from the constant noise we are exposed to.
We believe Abruzzo is one of those ideal spots for solo travellers. Plenty of open spaces to explore, a very rich cuisine and budget friendly are some of the reasons to give yourself that final push to visit “la regione più verde di Europa.”
So, is Abruzzo is the ideal spot for solo travellers? Here are some reasons we believe it might be:
Easy to get to Abruzzo
Despite being a very under the radar destination, Abruzzo is easily accessible from other major cities like Rome. In fact, the region is very well connected through two of the main highways (Autostrada dei Parchi e Autostrada Adriatica). Also and lucky us, Abruzzo has its own airport, the Aeroporto Internazionale d’Abruzzo which hosts several flights from other European cities such as London and Barcelona.
Abruzzo is the ideal spot to decompress yourself
If you are looking for a place to disconnect from everything, Abruzzo might perfect for you. The region has plenty of stunning natural landscapes, including mountains, national parks, and a beautiful coastline. All these areas offer peaceful surroundings where you can immerse yourself in nature, breathe in fresh air, and enjoy serene panoramas away from the noise and stress of urban life (and in some cases people 😅).
Abruzzo will take out of your comfort zone
Travelling alone will make us feel without no doubt a bit daunted no matter where we go. However, that feeling won’t be the same if we compare Abruzzo to more touristy places like Rome, Florence, London you name it. In Abruzzo you will definitely face numerous challenges such as language barrier (not many people speak other languages than Italian) or if you don’t drive you will be having a hard time since public transport is not wide compared to other places. At the same time, you will be able to encounter new people, do new things and get to know a part of Italy that you wouldn’t have known had you stayed where you are.
Abruzzo is budget friendly
Compared to other major cities Abruzzo will help you to adapt your budget in a easier way. Charges across various services ca be considered convenient (a proper espresso can cost no more than 1.20 euros). In certain restaurants you can have the best quality food at a very convenient price. Fragranze is a good example, best pizza I’ve tried for 11 euros (mozarrella, prosciutto cotto, radicchio and provola delle Madonie). In terms of accomodation, prices can be between 40 and 80 euros, depending on the number of guests and place in the region.
Abruzzo is ideal for road trips
If you are a solo traveller and a roadtripper as well, Abruzzo might the place you are looking for. You will get to know the region at your own pace while admiring its stunning natural beauty including national parks, mountains ranges and picturesque coastline. Three national parks, several natural reserves and more than 130 km of coast so, you will have plenty of options where to go, choice is yours!
