8 pictures of the most charming streets in Abruzzo (part 2)

Abruzzo is not just the region where the green of its mountains and hills and the blue of the its coasts reign. It is also the region of some of the most beautiful and picturesque villages of all Italy, which is why we want to show the second part of our series of the most charming streets in Abruzzo.
Pennapiedimonte - Via Balzolo
Pennapiedimonte is a small town of only 425 inhabitants (according to the latest data released by ISTAT), and is located within the territory of the Maiella National Park. It is also known as the Matera of Abruzzo, due to the fact that a large part of its alleys have been carved directly on the white stone of the Maiella Mountain. This alley in particular (staircase on the right) is Via Balzolo, and leads to the belvedere di Balzolo from which you can admire the Avello Valley, and is also the starting point of the Sentiero delle Gobbe di Selvaromana.
Roccascalegna - Piazza Umberto I
Roccascalegna is a village located on the hills surrounding the sangro river. It is known for its castle, the Castello di Roccascalegna, considered one of the most beautiful in the whole region. Guided tours through the castle are available for only 4 euros. The photo below shows Piazza Umberto I, which connects directly with Via del Castello that, as its name suggests, leads to the castle.
Crecchio - Corso Umberto
The town of Crecchio is located among the green hills in the province of Chieti, not far from sea locations such as Francavilla al Mare. Walking along Corso Umberto, it is possible to spot the Castello Ducale di Crecchio. The Museo dell’Abruzzo Bizantino ed Altomedievale is inside the castle, the admission costs 3 euros and if you want to take a guided tour through the village as well the cost will be 5 euros.

Capestrano - Via Capo Croce
With no doubt, Capestrano is one of the most fascinating villages in all Abruzzo. A place to visit, is its ancient fortress, the Castello Piccolomini, which not only offers a magnificent view of the Tirino Valley from it highest point, but it is also the place where a symbol of the Abruzzo region is guarded, the Guerriero di Capestrano. The alley shown in the photo, one of the many in Capestrano, visibly renovated, stands out from the others alleys in the town.
Pescara - Via Firenze
It is not the capoluogo (capital) of Abruzzo, however, Pescara is considered by many the most vibrant city in the whole region. Via Firenze, is one of those streets that you would walk over and over and over. Shops, restaurants and coffee shops, make it an ideal place to spend a pleasant afternoon in the company of family and friends. And in addition, is just a few meters from the beach . . .
Teramo - Corso San Giorgio
The City of Teramo is located right between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso, and is a pefect destination for anyone looking to combine in one trip nature and history. As any city or town in Italy, in its centre several churches stand out, as well as remains of building from the Roman era such as the theater and several palazzi dating back to different times. By walking through Corso San Giorgio and towards Piazza Martiri della Libertà, it is possible to have a glimpse of the bell tower of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, also to be considered a symbol of the city.
Giulianova - Piazza Buozzi
Although is not a street or alley, Piazza Buozzi, located in Giulianova Alta, is one the most vibrant squares in the whole region and right on it, there is the Duomo di San Flaviano, an example of Renaissance architecture and national monument since 1902. The recent opening of breweries, wine bars and restaurant some of which with panoramic terraces facing the Adriatic Sea, make of this square a meeting and reference point for all Giulianova and its surroundings.
